Don’t Crowd the Plow!

With winter in full swing and the roads getting slick, it’s time for a friendly reminder to keep your distance from snowplows. These hardworking crews are out there day and night, battling the elements to keep our roads safe. They’re not just clearing snow; they’re saving lives!

Here’s why it’s important to stay back:

?? Limited Visibility: Plow operators have large blind spots. If you’re too close, they may not see you.

?? Flying Debris: Snow, ice, and even rocks can fly up from the plow blade.

?? Wide Turns: Plows are heavy and make wide, unpredictable movements to clear roads efficiently.

?? Salt Spreaders: Following too closely can damage your vehicle and make driving more hazardous.

???? The Rule of Thumb: If you can’t see the mirrors of the plow, the driver can’t see you!

Let’s all do our part to make sure everyone gets home safely this winter. Respect the plow, give them room to work, and slow down when you see one on the road. Together, we can keep our community safe during these icy months!

Drive safe and stay warm, friends.

The Governor's Proposed State Budget For 2026

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the state budget yesterday.  Hochul says the budget includes what she calls inflation refund checks, that’s $500 checks for joint filers making less than $300,000 a year, and $300 checks, for those making less than $150,000 a year.  The governor’s proposed budget also includes one billion in funding for green energy, including setting up thermal energy networks at State University of New York campuses.

Reaction From Assemblyman Phil Palmesano:

“Last week, Gov. Hochul said “affordability” was one of her top priorities. Her solution? The largest state budget ever, $252 billion, an increase of $19 BILLION from last year's proposal is what Gov. Hochul proposed in her executive budget presentation. The governor’s plan continues New York down a dangerous and reckless path of more unsustainable and out-of-control spending and misplaced priorities that will just further compound the affordability crisis and financial struggles and challenges facing New York families and businesses. At a time when New Yorkers are making difficult decisions and having to tighten their own budgets, why does the governor think it is appropriate to increase the state's budget so dramatically and irresponsibly? The governor and our Democrat colleagues in the Legislature need to remember this is the people’s money, not their money.

“The Legislature will now conduct public budget hearings through the month of February where we will examine the proposed budget and question the governor’s agency commissioners, department heads and community stakeholders to evaluate the impact of her proposals on New Yorkers.

To our friends, neighbors, and everyone who prayed for Ryan’s safe return, called your Member of Congress, or fueled our advocacy in countless other ways, your support has carried us through the darkest moments. You reminded us that hope endures, even in the face of despair.

To the many journalists who used their platforms to shed light on Ryan’s plight, your efforts were instrumental in keeping his story alive and improving the conditions of his captivity, and we deeply appreciate the vital role you played in bringing us to this moment.

While we begin the healing process with Ryan by our side, we remain mindful of the many families who are still waiting for their loved ones to return, including the families of George Glezmann and Mahmoud Habibi. It was our hope that Ryan, George and Mahmoud would be returned to their families together, and we cannot imagine the pain that our good fortune will bring them. We recognize the immense privilege of our family’s reunion today, and pledge to keep praying – and fighting – for George and Mahmoud’s swift release.
